Windchimes as inspirations

Featured

There are times in our lives when words escape us and the only comfort we can offer is that of prayer, caring and reminder of faith. Those are the times when Inspirations By Micco can help you to speak without words with a precious Christian gift.

The handcrafted quality of each Inspirations By Micco Wind Chime perfectly captures the grace and compassion of the Blessed Mother. The handcrafted statue of the Blessed Mother is placed between a dove of peace and a prayer inscribed teardrop pendant that the lightest breeze will brush against silvery chimes to produce delicate music that echoes with a reminder of faith.

Writing Contest Winners! Read the winning stories of our writing contest here! A man suffered a serious heart attack and had open heart bypass surgery. He awakened from the surgery to find himself in the care of nuns at a Catholic hospital. As he was recovering, a nun asked him questions regarding how he was going to pay for services. He was asked if he had health insurance. He replied, in a raspy voice, “No health insurance.” The nun asked if he had money in the bank. He replied, “No money in the bank.” The nun asked, “Do you have a relative who could help you?” He said, “I only have a spinster sister, who is a nun.” The nun got a little perturbed and announced loudly. “Nuns are not spinsters! Nuns are married to God,” The patient replies, “That’s right! Send the bill to my brother-in-law.”

Good Things Happen to Good People / A Great Story In a supermarket, Kurtis the stock boy, was busily working when a new voice came over the intercom asking for a carry out at check register 4. Kurtis was almost finished, and wanted to get some fresh air, and decided to answer the call. As he approached the checkout stand a distance smile caught his eye, the new check out girl was beautiful. She was an older woman (maybe 26, and he was only 22) and he immediately fell in love. Later that day, after his shift was over, he waited by the punch out clock to find out her name. She came into the break room and smiled softly at him and took her card and punched out and left. He looked at her card -BRENDA. He walked out only to see her start walking up the road. The next day, he waited outside as she left the supermarket, and offered her a ride home. He looked harmless enough, and she accepted. When he dropped her off, he asked if maybe he could see her again, outside of work. She simply said it wasn’t possible. He pressed and then she explained she had two children and she couldn’t afford a baby-sitter. So he offered to pay for the baby-sitter. She reluctantly accepted his offer for a date for the following Saturday. That Saturday night he arrived at her door only to have her tell him that she was unable to go out with him. The baby-sitter had called and canceled. To which Kurtis simply said, “Well, lets take the kids with us.” She tried to explain that taking the children was not an option, but again not taking no for an answer, he pressed. Finally Brenda brought him inside to meet her children. She had an older daughter who was very cute, Kurtis thought Then Brenda brought out her son, in a wheelchair. He was born a paraplegic with Down’s syndrome. Kurtis asked Brenda, “I still don’t understand why the kids can’t come with us?” Brenda was amazed. Most men would run away from a woman with two kids, especially if one had disabilities, just like her first husband and father of the children did. That evening Kurtis and Brenda loaded up the kids went to dinner and the movies. When her son needed anything Kurtis would take care of him. When he needed to use the restroom, he picked him up out of his wheelchair and took him. The kids loved Kurtis. At the end of the evening, Brenda knew this was the man she was going to marry and spend the rest of her life with. A year later, they were married and Kurtis adopted both of her children and since then have added two more children to the family. So what ever happened to the stock boy and the check out girl? Well, Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Warner, now live in St. Louis, where he is employed by the St.Louis Rams and plays quarterback. Kurt will quarterback the Rams this Sunday in Super Bowl XXXVI

Chain Blogging from Elsie: Happy for her

I hate weddings. If you are my friend and you are getting married I will be happy that you’ve found someone. I will furthermore be happy that you’ve decided to celebrate that fact with a ceremony. I will even be happy to attend, provided you’ve picked some place posh for the reception and have the decency to provide an open bar, but otherwise I will feel out of place the entire time.

I also hate bridal showers with their bows & ribbons, their Victorian rituals and their obligatory games. I can only take so much of the high-pitched ooh-ing and ahh-ing. It’s lingerie, damn it: we’ve all seen it before and we sure as hell know the honeymoon is probably the last time you’ll ever wear it, honey. Honeymoon…right! Like there’s anyone out there who hasn’t already “partaken” at this stage of the game. The only thing worse than a bridal shower is a baby shower. They’re so 1950. Can’t we just send money & gifts and all go out on the town? Really, I’ll pay double for the privilege.

I think I knew early on that I wasn’t going to be married young when I would feel the urge to skip town during the bouquet toss. Besides it feeling degrading to women (“please fate, pick me!”), the bouquet has actually bounced off of me before. Not a good sign. I think I actually repel marriage, if that’s possible, It’s OK. I couldn’t care less, for the most part.

I’ve known so many women who play power games with men to get them to marry them. They withold one thing or another and manipulate them into buying the ring. Or they choose someone a couple of rungs down the scale from them to gain power that way. I don’t know. If that’s what it takes, I’m just not interested.

Or maybe it’s that I associate the whole thing with my religious days. The sexist roles mandated by the church, the perfectionism associated with that whole belief system. The idea of a life-long contract reminds me of all of those other non-negotiable religious expectations and I feel suffocated. Once again it’s someone else wanting me to become something else, and me lost underneath it all.

Occasionally I bend to societal judgments about my marital status – in just the same way that I occasionally bend to societal expectation about aging and feel old. I usually snap out of it though.

For whatever reason if I examine two possibilities: the thought of being unhitched for the rest of my life, or the thought of being trapped with one person, the latter scares me more. I kind of like the compromise: having someone significant without the trapped part. Just call me Goldie Hawn.

Writer contribution from Ohio

I am a writer. I wrote my first poem at the age of ten and haven’t stopped rhyming since. Some of us struggle to put one word in front of the other, while others are as nimble and as graceful with their words as Fred Astaire is with his feet.

I always believed I was the latter. Many people agreed, but economic circumstances forced me to put my creative side on the shelf to help pay the bills. I became a public relations professional. I was still a writer, putting words together to generate publicity, but it was not the same. I dreamed of writing a novel. Not necessarily the ‘great American novel,’ but perhaps a pretty darn good one. My wife encouraged me to write whenever I had free time. Magazines published my non-fiction articles. But, still, the book lay waiting. Not enough free time, I told myself.

And, then it happened. My prayers were answered, sort of. I lost my job.

I was 46 and I was fired, but I wasn’t scared. I knew, I felt this was part of God’s plan. That evening, our pastor prayed with my wife and I. The next morning, my wife and I prayed. She went to work; I went out for a long walk at a nearby park. It was foggy. The mist hung low to the ground. You could see the hand in front of your face, but not much further. The mist was breaking up, but ever so slowly. The park walk was a two-mile loop – one mile out, one mile in. As I walked along, I thought about writing. With each footfall, a sentence or two fell into shape. I stopped writing in my head, and started praying with my heart. I asked God if now was the time for the writing to begin. I told God of my hopes and dreams and asked God for his guidance.

As I made the turn and began the return mile, the sun popped up and the fog melted away. Not only could I see where I had been, but also I could now see where I was going. I started to appreciate God’s sense of humor. On the way back, I was treated to the sight of three outrageously complex and wonderfully beautiful spider webs. They could not be seen on the way out because of the fog, but the parting mists had revealed an unparalleled gallery of “arachnid-art.” The dew hung heavily on the silken strands, making them shine like spun threads of silver. The intricate patterns were almost intoxicating – concentric circles, like ripples on a pond, glistening in the early morning sun. The creativity of these tiny little bugs was enchanting and enthralling.

God was clearly speaking to me. No, I take that back. God wasn’t speaking, He was shouting.

“If these little spiders with brains the size of a mustard seed can weave spider spit to create incredible works of art, just imagine Mark what you and I can do together with words on a piece of paper???

I went home and started to write. Not only was the book a good idea, it was now, as far as I was concerned, God’s idea. That will insure its success.

The book is coming along nicely. I have found additional work. Nothing I have written so far is as majestic as those spider webs. But, with Jesus, all things are possible.

Inspiring story

After visiting your website it is clear to me that I should share the story of how, on the first Saturday of the month as I recited the Rosary with the congregation, Mary touched my heart. This story pertains to the way you are striving to touch the souls of each of your customers.

A few years ago I owned a home based framing business, and our Priest asked me to frame a very special print he had received as a gift. It was an almost life-sized print of Our Lady of Guadalupe.

Being a new Catholic, still waiting to be confirmed, I was unfamiliar with this image of Mary, so our priest told me the story. I was moved, and enjoyed the task of framing something so special. My husband and I hung it in the vestibule of the church over the candles to be lit when offering prayers for victims of abortion.

Before coming to the Catholic faith I had used various forms of contraception that could have caused spontaneous abortion, and ten years ago, my husband had a vasectomy. We grew to understand how serious a sin it is to interfere with God’s will in this way. I knew God had forgiven us, but still felt there was much we needed to do to atone.

At the end of the first decade of the Rosary that day, Mary touched my heart. She reminded me of the day I stood under the framed image of her, lit a candle and prayed for four people who had babies aborted over the years. She then told me that framing the image of her had already made atonement, as it would touch many people in years to come, bringing them closer to her son. She told me how this is true for anyone who gives of their talents in ways that will inspire and move people closer to Jesus.

I thought of all the magnificent churches and cathedrals that have been erected around the world because of the generosity of countless people desiring to give something back to God. The best gifts we give to Him are the ones that draw others closer to him.

I was moved to tears through feeling her physical presence with me as she spoke, without words, to my heart. What a burden she lifted from me on that day.

I feel it is no coincidence that I discovered your website. I have received several inspirational messages from you and feel you are a man in tune with God. Believe in God’s goodness and mercy to take care of all our spiritual and physical needs as long as we are willing to do his will! I will be praying for you and your family.
